Care, use and maintenance of uPVC windows and doors
uPVC requires little maintenance but to ensure you get the best from your doors and windows, please follow these simple tips:
- Cleaning – Frames should be cleaned regularly with soapy water; ordinary washing up liquid is fine. If dirt is really stubborn, you can use a non-abrasive household cleaner, which should then be washed off with soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaners or wire wool as this will damage the surface of the uPVC frame.
- Lubrication – You should lubricate all moving parts at least once a year. Stainless steel hinges should be oiled at the rivet points with a light silicone lubricant. Other metal components should be coated with petroleum jelly. Do not use spray oil or excessive lubrication.
- Condensation prevention – To minimise the risk of condensation, you should open windows in each room for a short while each day.
Use – Make sure windows and doors are fully closed before operating handles. This will avoid strain on the locking mechanism. Do not force the handles or locks. If they will not operate, check there are no obstructions and try again.
